In general, we design and decide the size of column by analysing the total loads on the structure using E Tabs and Staad Pro Steps to decide the size of the column:As mentioned above, the column size depends upon the size of the column, in the calculation of total loads the dead load, live load, seismic load, wind load is considered. Dead load depends upon the self-weight of structure Live load is different for commercial and residential buildings. The Live load for residential buildings is 250Kg/mm2 The live load for commercial buildings is 400Kg/mm2Once the total loads are calculated then it’s easy to figure out the size of the slab and the type of slab. After defining the type and size of the slab, the load transferring on the slab to the beam is found out and the size of the beam is decided. Once the loads on beams are calculated then the load transfer from beam to the column is estimated by moment distribution method.
